Overthinking: Destroyer of Life

A person can imagine many things at the same moment. Sometimes thinking may be so expensive that it generates a large number of possibilities that are entirely dissimilar from reality. Inability to turn these ideas into capable action or beneficial consequences creates stress. This may occur as a result of curiosity or fear of the unknown. An overthinker wishes to break this tendency because it often just leads to anxiety and unfavorable ideas. But it is not that simple. It is similar to a habit that takes time to break and is not a mental condition. People who do not overthink are unable to comprehend this emotion. An overthinker frequently wants to bury his or her thoughts in order to free oneself of the weight. Chaos appears to be roiling and there seems to be no way out as darkness creeps closer and closer.

But do we know how overthink can affect someone's life? Let us imagine a scenario of a boy who overthinks a lot and because of that he suffers from trust issues. When someone (even his close friend) asks him any question, he wonders what the person's motive might be. Many things go through his mind and most of the time he gives false information. After that he realizes he should not have done that. Then he thinks about what would happen if he gets caught. These go on an infinite loop in his mind. He gets distracted from reality. Consider a scenario again  where the boy suffered from body shaming for several years. Because of that, he has so much insecurities that he often thinks he is the problem. It kills him inside to think about it but he cannot get over it. So we can say, trauma can also cause overthinking. Under the influence of such overthinking, a person develops insecurities in all ways and also all kinds of self-doubt. The majority of the time thoughts are automatic and ingrained. As a result, thinking excessively develops into a habit. One probably spend his time thinking about important matters like your finances, health, job, relationships and meaning of life. Unproductive thinking in these areas does nothing to gain them.

Overthinking can create trust issues. It can destroy many relationships between friends and family. It also creates a lot of mental stress which later affects physical health. If a person does not make a quick choice due to overthinking, he/she risks many  opportunities for success. Overanalyzing generates an endless circle of possibilities but no actual action. It gradually transfers leadership duties to another person. The greatest ideas are seldom put into action because people are afraid of failing.

One of the key problems with overthinking is we just believe the thoughts that pop into our heads without questioning them and start to panic. When we overthink, we often create create imaginary fears and consider catastrophic scenarios that are unlikely to play out in real life. One should accept the fact that we cannot control everything and understand that trying to control things beyond our reach is of no use.

It also has some advantages. Delaying the decision making process allows us to go forward cautiously
rather than hastily. In order for the cycle to continue, we need to be able to keep thinking about new topics which needs to be studied on additional thought. Sometimes we can predict possible outcomes and plan. By considering a variety of potential possibilities, we may also make a lot of good judgements. But the negative side outweighs the bright side.

Most people overthink certain issues at various points in their lives, and that is totally fine. Though it develops into a habit, it will take some time to figure out how to stop this from controlling our life. Sharing thoughts with someone helps a lot. One just has to gain the courage to open up. It is crucial to realize that we do not have to be in charge of every element of our life, we do not have to be flawless. By acknowledging the  fact that many factors are beyond our control, we will be closer to solving our overthinking issue.
