The smartphone market is a battlefield between two giant companies, Apple and Google. Both companies have their operating systems (OS) for phones—iOS for Apple and Android for Google. As a user, it can be difficult to decide which system is best for you. Each has its advantages and drawbacks.
Advantages:
However, Android has an advantage when it comes to customization. Android allows users to customize their phones with third party app and widgets, while iOS limits users to only the apps available in the App Store. Android also offers more storage options than iOS, which makes it easier to store large amounts of data.
File transfer in Android is easier than iOS. iOS has Siri as voice assistant where android has google assistant. iOS devices are available in 34 languages and android devices are available in 34 languages and android devices are available in 100+ languages.
Market share:
According to StatCounter , Android is dominating the market share. Where iOS holds only 16% of worldwide smartphone users. Android devices are popular among over 80% of the population. When it comes to market share by regions, here’s what the statistics have to say:
·
US - 52.59% - iOS,
46.98% - Android
·
Europe-22.23%-iOS,
72.71% - Android
·
Asia - 13.85% -iOS,
83.09% - Android
Even a common misconception about the iPhone dominated America didn’t prove to be all that true, the margin of difference between the market shares of Android vs iPhone development is fairly small.
Widgets:
Android devices extensively support widgets on its home screen (except
for the lock screen). iOS is fairly new to the trend of widgets as a result, it
provides limited widget support. A user will only be able to access widgets in
the Notification Center.
By widget support, Android devices win over iOS as they have fully adopted the feature and use its benefits much more extensively.
Online payment:
iOS has a far larger user base than android because of online mobile payment options. Apple Pay is used on iOS with
fingerprint identification and a passbook application.
This is a great way to keep tack of all of your cards and coupons.
Google Wallet is used on NFC-enabled android but it
does not offer fingerprint authentication.
Price:
When it comes to pricing, Android phones tend to be cheaper than iPhones, so cost is another factor to consider. However, Android phones also have a much higher rate of obsolescence, which means that they become outdated much quicker than iPhones.
Ultimately, the choice between iOS and Android comes down to personal.
