WHAT IS KPOP? WHY EVERYONE IS GETTING ATTRACTED TO IT?

 KPOP- Korean Music Pop a worldwide phenomenon that has been attracting people of all ages. It all started in 1992 when a boy group named “Seo Taiji and Boys” debuted, their experimental music with a mix of different Western genres changed the whole face of Korean music to what we know as KPOP today. From selling millions of albums to topping every music chart domestically and internationally they could be seen everywhere.

THE NEW ERA

One of the first steps of turning KPOP to worldwide leading genres is PSY’s GANGNAM STYLE, which not only got viral in Korea but was also one of the biggest international hit that broke an uncountable number of records. Besides, being a hit song it also set an example that shows music does not have any language, despite being a completely different language people still loved it. PSY gave a completely different color to Korean music that made KPOP as KPOP today.

WHAT MAKES THEM SO ADDICTIVE?

Even though most of the western genres are known for their dancing and singing, KPOP takes it to a whole different level. From dancing, singing to styling KPOP takes everything to the level of perfection. Even if the viewer watches their performance for the first time they would not fail to get impressed by the vocals, stage presence, dancing, unique choreography, styling makes them astonishing.

WHY EVERYONE IS MORE INTO KPOP GROUPS RATHER THAN THE WESTERN GROUPS? 

Through the last decade we have seen the sudden shift of popularity in music. before, Groups like One direction, 5 seconds of summer used to dominate the whole industry. One of the reasons why this sudden change came is due to the use of technology. Groups that debuted in early 2010 didn’t have that advanced level of technology as they have today. That’s why when the whole world was getting more advanced in using social media. All the western groups had a sudden shift of their lifestyle, online trolling, bullying had a huge effect on them. However, KPOP took advantage of the whole situation. Instead of getting away from social media they used it as their weapon. Posting daily content on YouTube channels so that the fans feel connected to them. Coming on live on social media to talk about their daily life activities. Even KPOP big companies launched different types of apps only for their fans. Apps like Bubble, WeVerse, and Lysn are some of them. Through these apps fans could get original texts, content posted by the artist themselves.

WHY KPOP IS A GOOD INFLUENCE?

KPOP artists not only keep connections through social media, they also share motivational meaning through their songs and activities . According to lots of fans their songs help them to go through difficult times. Groups like BTS and Aespa are some of the main pioneers that talked in UN assembly about development of younger generations and aim to be a strong cultural voice and sustainable development of a country.

Also, KPOP group members such as StrayKids’s BangChan and NCT’s are known for their positive motivation among fans. During pandemic Covid-19 when everyone was suffering from mental health issues due to the life death situation and lockdown. BangChan and Taeyong worked as a shield for the fans. They used to spend two to three hours on live chatting showing their daily life activities and used their personal and work life struggles to motivate their fans. Later on fans all around the world opened up how the members saved their life and worked as a weapon against depression.

There are many grown up trends to judge those who love KPOP. Some even say it's childish and time consuming but to many fans KPOP works as a stress reliever. There has been a huge portion of fans who might not be available to get that support from their parents or surrounding and KPOP acts as the biggest support for them. We should not always judge people because of their personal taste and respect them.
